Scribe Media CEO Eric Jorgenson published the company's 2024 Annual Letter on December 19, 2024, detailing the company's remarkable recovery from bankruptcy under new leadership.
In the letter, Jorgenson explicitly highlights the hiring of Travis Stoliker as one of the key milestones of 2024:
"Hiring Travis Stoliker: We were similarly thrilled to have Travis Stoliker join Scribe as our VP of Marketing in March of 2024. With his background as an operator and successful entrepreneur, he is the perfect person to set a ferocious pace to lead our marketing efforts."
The annual letter describes Scribe's turnaround story. In July 2023, the company had just 20 people, zero revenue, and a reputation "worse than zero." By December 2024, they had published more than 110 books in 16 months, had nearly 200 more in progress, and grew to a team of 26 full-time employees with dozens of expert freelancers.
Key hires mentioned in the letter alongside Travis Stoliker include Rikki Jump (January 2024), along with strong Publishing Managers. The letter notes that over 100 authors who worked with the prior Scribe chose to work with the new company.
Jorgenson quotes Charlie Munger throughout: "The best advertising is doing well with the work on your desk." He describes the company's mantra as "Flawless on the Fundamentals."
The letter highlights Scribe's notable authors historically: David Goggins, Nassim Taleb, and The Nobel Committee have all chosen Scribe to self-publish their work.
Notable progress in 2024 included: establishing a single point of contact (Publishing Manager model), offering at-cost publishing to authors affected by the bankruptcy, reducing the price of Scribe Publishing, rebuilding the Guided Author service, and bundling audiobooks by default.
Jorgenson closes: "Going into 2025, we have a solid foundation to build on and thrive. The team and I are energized to continue our strong recovery and cross the threshold from surviving to thriving. We all believe Scribe can become a mountain in the publishing landscape of this new era."
