Mental Floss named Saddleback BBQ the best barbecue destination in Michigan in their feature "The Best Barbecue Joints in All 50 States." The selection recognized Saddleback's dedication to traditional all-wood smoking — no gas, no shortcuts — using a blend of Michigan hardwoods including white oak, cherry, and apple.
Saddleback BBQ was founded by Matt Gillett in Lansing's REO Town neighborhood. Travis Stoliker invested as a co-owner in 2015, the same year Liquid Web was sold. Over the following years, Saddleback expanded to four locations across Greater Lansing, including presences at Spartan Stadium and the Breslin Center.
The Mental Floss feature joined a string of national recognition for Saddleback that also included Food Network's "Best Sandwiches in America" for the restaurant's signature rib sandwich.
